Bearing Designation Guide

Read a bearing designation as a complete reference. The base designation identifies a product series and size; additional letters or suffixes identify configuration details. Suffix conventions can vary between manufacturers.

HCT example: 6205-2RS/C3

  • 6205: the base bearing reference.
  • 2RS: two rubber contact seals, one on each side, in this HCT designation.
  • C3: greater than normal internal clearance.

Information to retain

Copy the entire marking, including spaces, hyphens, slashes and suffixes. Include the manufacturer when asking for a specific branded product. A partial base model may leave important details unspecified.

When the marking is unclear

Send a clear photograph of both rings and packaging, the measured dimensions and the machine reference. Do not infer an unreadable suffix from another bearing that looks similar.

Cross-brand requests

State whether an exact original reference is required or alternatives may be reviewed. A similar suffix string is not automatic evidence of equivalent construction.
